The historian Gaspero Righini, describes the Villa in his book "Chianti Classico" as follows: "Il Poggiale, one of the oldest and most beautiful villas in San Casciano, rises up out of its ancient solid walls, on the crest of the Argiano hills, along the Via Empolese. On the garden side of the house there is an elegant portico with columns in the Tuscan style, while all the doors and windows are decorated in stone of a pure Renaissance nature".
We first hear of the Villa in 1408 when the Corsini family acquired it from Jacopo d'Agostini Martini. The Villa then passed into the hands of the church and subsequently to the Ricasoli-Rucellai family. The façade dates back to the 16th century with its lovely Renaissance loggia and the elegant frames of the windows and doors in the typical Florentine "pietra serena". The central courtyard with its well, is probably the oldest part of the house, although various modifications and extensions have been carried out over a long period of time, each one adding to the villa's innate.
The interiors were designed in the 1800's with beautiful frescoes and painted doors. The entrance halls and the carriage rooms are frescoed in the "grotesque" style, typical of the Renaissance.
